Why Commit Suicide?

Humankind is so dynamic in this our modern world, such that every new day comes with its problems and the solutions differ from each person’s perspective. We all agree that it has not been easy to take care of ones self even when you are gainfully employed and not to talk about the numerous necessities of life. Since the beginning of this year, not a week passes by without the media reporting on someone who has committed suicide.

Those who commit suicide in Ghana come from all walks of life and they also range from children to adults. Some of the victims are well-to-do, and on the outside you will not notice any problem they are battling with. Also, the reasons left behind by the victims show that these people were fed up with life. There have been situations where children have committed suicide due to the maltreatment they receive in school, or at the hands of their stepmothers or stepfathers. These children therefore decide to end their lives so as to put an end to the suffering they are going through. The adult victims also kill themselves due to marital problems such as a wife threatening to divorce the husband, a husband being blackmailed by the wife to expose him for cheating on her, and also being indebted to people. Most of the suicide victims hang themselves in their rooms or on trees. Others also drink poisonous substances just to end it all. Some also jump from the top of tall buildings and end their lives. It seems suicide has become very rampant in Ghana, and if you are thinking of killing yourself, i want to tell you that it is not worth it to take your own life.

Life belongs to the Almighty God. Whatever problem you have and you feel you have hit the end of the road, sit down carefully and access yourself before taking a decision. Confide in someone you trust very much, discuss your problem with your pastor, parents or any elderly person in your community, but first go down on your knees and pray to God Almighty about your problem, and surely He will solve your problem for you. Life is enjoyable despite all the problems associated with it, don’t just give up.

So, i ask, why commit suicide? Please, do not take that road, Ghana and humankind needs you alive to contribute your quota to the development of the society to make it a better place for us all. You must know that, the little that you do to help can go a long way to make someone happy. God be with us all.

Valentines Day Blues

ImageThe season of love is here with us once again. On 14th February every year, the whole world celebrates Saint Valentine’s Day, and this day was originally marked with sharing and giving out gifts not only to loved ones but to anybody who was in need, the under privileged and the down trodden. But with time we in Ghana have changed the manner in which the day is marked. Some people are even advocating for the day to be made a national holiday. The Government of Ghana some years back decided to rename the day “National Chocolate Day”. This was done to encourage Ghanaians to patronize their local cocoa products. But how many Ghanaians in Ghana can afford our own chocolate produced here in Ghana? Now back to the purpose of this article. Many Guys and ladies would be affected by the Valentine Day Blues. Guys would go at great lengths to make sure their girlfriends get what they want on this very day, and the ladies would take no excuses if their boyfriends or lovers tell them they don’t have money. When a guy fails to please or buy a gift for the girlfriend, then the relationship might end there and then. Some guys also decide to switch off their phones so as not to have any communication with their girlfriends on that day. They later turn around to blame it on the bad networks. These days, the day has been turned into a promiscuous one by some of the youth in our society. This is the day they make up their minds to have sex by any means possible with their girlfriends. Any lady who refuses the sexual advances of her guy on this particular day is deemed not to be romantic by the guy, and this refusal might lead to a breakup of the relationship. This is a day many ladies are forced to coerce to the sexual demands of their lovers under the pretext of “Love”. But this is where it gets murky, more people are going to be infected with the HIV/AIDS virus, STDs, unplanned pregnancies( if no protection is used), loss of dignity(on the part of the ladies when their virginity is broken), some ladies would also be drugged and raped by some unscrupulous guys, who later brag about it to their friends. The pharmacy shops are also going to have a rise in profit as more condoms would be sold just to promote this promiscuous lifestyle. No wonder some years back, a week to Valentines Day, there was a shortage of condoms in one of the major towns in the country. Lets not be caught up in this negative celebration of Valentines Day, lets promote the original meaning of this special day. Happy Valentines Day and be positive.

Water Is Life

ImageHumankind has been given so many free things by the Almighty God. Some of these things are the air we breath, the sun, the plants and animals and many more. But it seems we have been ungrateful to the Creator for all these free things that He gave us. Who can mention any good replacement for water? I will give that person a handsome prize if i deem that thing equally suitable to replace water. Water is so precious to humankind, but this precious resource is being wasted and destroyed by humankind with the highest form of impunity. Why should we allow our water bodies to be polluted by the factories and industries without any measures taken against them? The wanton destruction of our rivers and other water bodies by the illegal miners in the country is a serious issue, and it seems the authorities are just waiting for some disaster of a gargantuan magnitude to strike before action is taken. These illegal miners divert the courses of the rivers, pollute them with poisonous chemicals and the pits they leave behind serve as death traps for the innocent children who die through no fault of theirs, as a result of someone’s negligence. All these activities go a long way to make water very scarce. Research has shown that one can go without food for some number of days and no major health complication will arise, but without water one is bound to face serious health complications or even death. Water makes up about 70% of the human body, so just imagine yourself not drinking water for a whole day. It saddens my heart whenever i see people wasting water, because some people are in dire need of the precious resource. They can be found in most of the rural areas where they do not get access to good drinking water. They share their water source with animals such as cattle, sheep and goats. It is the same water source that they use for washing their household items. Water is precious, so the next time you think of wasting some water, remember the rural folks who find it difficult to get access to good drinking water. But hey, if i may ask what happens when our water resources dry up and we dont get water to drink? Your guess is as good as mine. Lets all come together to protect and preserve this precious gift given to us for free by the Almighty God, because when He decides to demand payment for His gifts we will not be able to pay. Truly, Water is Life.
